Not in the game, no. The brightness is about right (for a space game!) on most displays, but if you can't adjust the brightness using your monitor then you could try a tool called DarkAdapted. This provides a gamma adjustment that can be used with most games. Just use your favourite search engine to find a reputable site to get it from.
