Why are the Buy and Sell commands for my ship greyed out?

The various Buy and Sell commands are used for station supply. They will only be enabled if your ship has a Homebase, which must be one of your own stations. If you don't have any stations yet then you don't need the Trade Command Software Mk1 and Mk2.
