They make the steering of your ship more agile which is excellent for out-turning enemies. Each one you buy increases the turn rate but is more expensive than the last, and there is a limit to the number you can add. You can't remove them or transfer them to another ship once added so make sure you really want them. On small and fast ships, too many Engine Tunings can make it impossible for you to steer it yourself!
