You can only effectively fly one ship at a time. Sometimes, you will find yourself in combat against several enemy ships. You might even find yourself outnumbered. In these circumstances you might find yourself in need of assistance. Whilst it's possible to start looking for friends or neighbors to ask for assistance, it's far more effective to use your own ships. With the use of wingmen controls, you can quickly and effectively receive combat support from your ships without having to spend a lot of time in menus giving your ships specific orders.
